The St. Edward's University Fine Arts Gallery serves both the university and Austin community through exhibitions of professional artists, faculty, alumni, and students, as well as sponsored lectures and other programming related to our visiting artist program.
Our goal is to offer a platform for enrichment through contemporary art, exposing the community to a wide range of artistic disciplines and practices, serving our students through direct engagement with professional artists, and offering a space and resources for professional development through student exhibitions.
Both a teaching gallery and exhibition venue, the gallery is located in the Fine Arts Center on the northwest corner of campus. Past visiting artists and guest lecturers have included Justin Favela, David Mack, Robert Hite, Linda Stein, Pato Hebert, Tulu Bayar, Jeff Schmuki + Wendy Deschene, Joe Meiser and Elise Engler.

Pay It Forward
November 7 - Dec. 3 (Fine Arts Center)
Opening Events:
Homecoming Weekend!
Saturday, November 7, 3:30-5:30 pm
3:30 - 5:30 pm Reception
Pay It Forward is a collaborative exhibition celebrating the people and relationships that continue to shape our creative community. The exhibition is built on a simple idea: alumni supporting alumni. Pay It Forward features alumni artists who have been selected by their peers-- other alumni artists who have previously exhibited in our annual alumni show. For this show the alumni have been the curators, each choosing one alum whose practice they find meaningful. This could be someone they have learned from, stayed connected with, admired from afar, or believe is making an important contribution to the contemporary creative conversation at-large.

Work from our Animation students will be on display, too!
This event is open to the general public, and any young artists interested in an education in visual studies are especially encouraged to attend! Come see what our students are making and the spaces they're making in! VISU student clubs will be in attendance to speak to their experiences.

The Minute Gallery began as an initiative for currently enrolled students to engage in a creative dialogue on campus by submitting work for themed exhibitions or by proposing group or solo exhibitions.
exhibition space is a small wall and shelf that is placed between office 130 and 131 in the Fine Arts Center.
In the summer of 2014 the Minute Gallery opened up an opportunity for alumni from the Visual Studies Department to submit proposals for a full scale exhibition in the Fine Arts Gallery. We continue to celebrate these juried alumni exhibitions each summer and early fall in the main gallery.

September 30 - October 22, 2026 (Fine Arts Center)
Garland Kirkpatrick is a graphic designer, educator, and curator whose work sits at the intersection of visual communication and social justice.
²¹³Ü³Ù´Ç•e³Ù³ó²Ô´Ç•g°ù²¹±è³ó¾±²õ traces more than three decades of Garland Kirkpatrick’s engagement with the visual and social landscape of contemporary life. Drawing from the languages of graphic design, advertising, and popular culture, his work reconfigures familiar signs and images into a personal lexicon— one that registers the tensions, contradictions, truths, and injustices of the present. Through icon, metaphor, and typography, the graphic image becomes both subject and material: a space where meaning can be unsettled, disrupted, and reimagined.
